I have been crafting my entire life, but more seriously the last 10 years or so. I used to sell my creations in a store and online, but then we had to downsize and I can’t do as much as I would like to. I dabble a little bit in all the areas – mosaics, polymer clay, stencils, mixed media art, jewelry and more. My latest “discovery” was the Silhouette – and I am in love! I thought I would share some of my favorites here with you guys as I have wasted so much money on products that turn out to not do what I was wanting them to do, or they were just not up to par. If I can save you some time, headache and money in sharing what I have found to be good products, then I am a happy girl! And feel free to share any product recommendations or feedback, I love to hear about ways to do things better, good products, and ways to save money!

The Silhouette Cameo – Digital Die Cutting taken to the next level! I LOVE this product, it has literally changed my life – I know it sounds cheesy, but for a serious crafter/artist, it has! I used to spend a lot of money on various products at Michael’s and JoAnn’s but this machine has allowed me to cut that at least in half. You can create your own words, cut-outs, chipboard pieces, flower accents, stamps and more! No cartridges, it works of files you create (or you can buy pre-made files for under $1). This machine has been a big help to my hands as well – I was recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and cutting things out was a chore and most of the time hurt – but not any more – this thing cuts them out in detail for me. My favorite part – I haven’t had to buy another stencil – I make them all myself now. That alone has saved me hundreds of dollars already. My husband says this is the best investment we’ve ever made lol.
Dr. PH Martin’s Bombay India Ink – These inks are fantastic for mixed media art and are a really great price. I bought a bunch of small spray bottles, mixed this ink, water, and alcohol and use them as sprays for paper and canvas. I also use them directly on canvas to “paint”. They are very bright and vibrant, durable and dry very quickly with a heat gun and without compared to other inks. These inks are just as good quality as their more expensive counterparts that are $6-7 a bottle.
Colorbox Petal Point Pinwheel Inkpads – For a Mom on a budget, these ink wheels are a fantastic option! Purchasing all these colors individually would cost a fortune, but with the pinwheel you get 8 different colors for a fraction of the cost. This has allowed me to have all the colors I need without breaking the bank. And the little wedges make it very easy to hold in your hand, stamp on stencils, and especially for stamping edges of paper and bits! |
